Skills and knowledge development are the driving forces behind the financial growth and community development of any country. Skill building is a powerful tool to empower individuals and improve their social acceptance. It must be complemented by economic growth and employment opportunities to meet the rising aspirations of youth. Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY) is the flagship scheme of the Ministry of Skill Development & Entrepreneurship (MSDE) through National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC).
The Ministry of Entrepreneurship and Skill Development, Government of India has proposed to train 100 lakh youth in different employable and marketable skills during the period 2016-20 and allocated Rs.12,000 crores to implement the scheme. The National Skill Development Corporation is the Nodal Agency to implement the scheme. 32 sectors specific skill councils have been formed to design and develop skill development courses within their sectors. The Sector Skill Councils identified Technical Agencies as Training Partners to implement the scheme under the NSDC-PMKVY 2.0.
M/s. Arrina Education Services Pvt. Ltd., (TalentEdge), Mumbai has been identified as a training partner of Electronic Sector Skill Council of India (ESSCI), Telecom Sector Skill Council (TSSC) and Retailers Association’s Skill Council of India (RASCI), etc., to implement the identified courses. M/s. Arrina Education Services Pvt. Ltd., (TalentEdge) has partnered with CED (Tamil Nadu) to implement the skill development programmes in Tamil Nadu for the past three years. During the year 2014-15, around 1000 Cable TV Operators were trained throughout Tamil Nadu in “Set Top Box (STB) Installation and Servicing” Skill Training. This was popularly known as STAR Scheme.
During the year 2015-16, NSDC implemented the PMKVY scheme and CED (Tamil Nadu) partnered with Talent Edge to implement Skill Training Programme under Electronics, Telecom and Retail Sectors in 9 centres in Tamil Nadu. Around 4000 youth were trained during that year in the above said skill courses.
During the current year, 2016-17, the new guidelines for the Skill Development Scheme of the Government of India were introduced. The scheme was known as NSDC-PMKVY 2.0. CED (Tamil Nadu) is implementing different skill development courses in 10 centres both in Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Each training centre is accredited based on the facilities of the centre. CED (Tamil Nadu), Madurai has been accorded 5 Star Status and has been allotted 700 youth to be enrolled before 31st March, 2017 for Six different Job Roles under the following sectors:
I. Electronic Sector Skill Council of India (ESSCI):
– Solar Panel Installation Technician
– Mobile Phone Hardware Repair Technician
– Field Technician – Computing and Peripherals
– Field Technician - Other Home Appliances
– DTH Set Top Box Installer / Service Technician
II. Retailers Association’s Skill Council of India (RASCI):
