"Centre for Entrepreneurship Development (Tamil Nadu), Madurai is deeply grieved by the sudden demise of Padma Shri Dr. V G Patel who passed away on April 04, 2019 at the age of 79. He has left an imprint on the Discipline of Entrepreneurship. As an institution builder, he established Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India (EDII) in 1983 to work for potential and existing entrepreneurs. It is a sustainable role model to other Entrepreneurship Promotion Agencies.
Dr. R. Jayaraman, the Founder Trustee and Member Secretary of CED (Tamil Nadu), Madurai was trained by him during 1990 through an intensive two months international programme of Training of Trainers (ToT) in Entrepreneurship Development. Dr. V.G. Patel was a Friend, Philosopher and Guide of CED (Tamil Nadu) in its journey of Entrepreneurship Promotion for more than 25 years. He conducted a two day workshop on, “The Seven Business Crisis & How to Beat Them” at Madurai for the Entrepreneurs of South India on behalf of CED (Tamil Nadu). We will remember him forever.
Dr. V.G. Patel was honoured with the Padma Shri in 2017 for his contribution to development of entrepreneurship in India. He was 79 years and is survived by his wife and three children.

The Government of India also incorporated the EDP approach as a part of its self employment schemes. The Central Government’s ‘Rojgar Yojana’ incorporated entrepreneurship training, based on work done by Dr. Patel. His book “The Seven Business Crisis & How to Beat Them” (reissued as When the Going gets Tough) is a best seller.
